I thought it would be fun to do a “typical week” series of posts, since the way fractional leaders manage time might be quite different from the one-job standard. But maybe you see some similarities as well…I’d love to hear your thoughts on this which can be posted here: https://lnkd.in/g3xMeFF9
MONDAY:
Itโs The Fractional Directory day! I donโt time block rigidly for specific clientsโthat was a failed experiment in the early days of being a fractional leaderโbut I do try to group my days by themes where possible. Todayโs focused on work for the Fractional Directory and on mentorship.
My day begins with a meeting for the Fractional Directoryโweโve got lots of fractional leaders represented and are quickly adding new partners who are experts at helping companies find and hire the right leaders. The energy in these meetings is always inspiring.
Next, I connect with the team to review key metrics, action items. We’re constantly improving the directory’s user interface and usability, plus, the launch of our new partnerships is going to be exciting!
My lunch break is spent reviewing notes for an upcoming meeting while working my way through a salad and a coffee to keep the energy levels high.
This isn’t a typical first meeting: Iโve known the client stakeholders for years so feels more like an open-ended conversation than a formal pitch. I always enjoy these kinds of meetings immensely. We explored possibilities for a long-term project and I left feeling excited about the potential.
Time to catch up on follow-ups, send out thank-you notes, and draft some LinkedIn posts (like this one!). Itโs the quieter, reflective part of my day which I am to preserve no matter how packed the rest of the day gets.
Beyond my work as a fractional leader, I mentor others, helping them to strategise and tackle business challenges. Today, I brainstormed with a mentee to find creative solutions for overcoming a business slowdown.
Tuesdays are martial arts days for my daughter, so I work from her gym venue, meet the family there, and then we all go out to dinner afterwards. It’s a highlight of the day and has become part of our weekly routine.
